Our family started something new this year. We filled each little box with a little something for both Toby & Lydia. Prior to opening the door we read a portion of scripture that tells of the coming of Christ. Yesterday we started with Luke 2:1-3, “In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to his own town to register.”
Toby was pretty pumped to find two starburst behind door number 1. Lydia enjoyed a couple gummy life savors.
Afterwards I started to think about what we read and I was flooded with all sorts of questions like, When was the last time you took a census on your life? When was the last time you took a look at where your time, money, and energy was going? Are things that you say you value getting the most attention? What would a spirtual census look like for you?
I think this is something that every church should do. What is our vision/mission? What has God called us to be about? Are we staffing towards that? Are we putting money towards that? Are we teaching about that?
