It wasn’t my weeks goal to upset people but I found myself successful numerous times. Here are few things you should avoid if you don’t want to upset people.
Don’t run a skill saw in the hallway of your office for 8 seconds.
Don’t take away the fruit snacks that your child has.
Don’t run an advertisement with the words Sexy Sundays in the paper.
Don’t defend single dads.
Don’t talk about money in church.
Don’t tell someone you don’t know the answer to their question.
Don’t choose to call someone back when it is convenient for you. They called you and you need to stop what you are doing and get to the phone.
Don’t show up to help someone with something because they will want to know why it took you so long to get over and help.
Here is what I have learned. You can’t not control “them” or “their” emotions. It is crucial to understand what is yours to own and what isn’t. Naturally I have made errors and need to own them and how they effect others but at the same time I need to be very clear on what is not mine to own. There is so much freedom in knowing how to do that. Jenny is so awesome in helping me have clarity in all of this. I’m so thankful for her.
